Katya Vines has an extensive work experience spanning over several years in various roles. Katya began their career as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Universitat de Barcelona in 1994. Katya then worked as a Science Teacher at St Edwards College, where they taught Chemistry and Science to students aged 11-18 and provided individual tutoring. Afterward, they held a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position at the University of Oxford, where they tutored undergraduates at Merton College.

In 1996, Katya joined John Wiley and Sons as an Editor, managing a list of 200 monographs and 6 journals. Katya commissioned numerous titles, including major reference works, and played a significant role in the company's publishing efforts. Katya continued their career in education publishing as a Senior Editor at Oxford University Press, overseeing the Math list and commissioning new resources for the English, Scottish, and international markets. Katya successfully managed existing publications and contributed to the company's partnership with the examination board AQA.

Katya ventured into freelance work in 2006, specializing in Maths writing. Katya was commissioned by UK publisher Collins to write 1000 Maths questions and answers for an online homework product. Katya also took the responsibility of project management, including scheduling and budgeting.

From 2006 to 2014, Katya worked at The International Baccalaureate. Katya initially served as a Publishing Manager, overseeing the production of publications for IB teachers and students worldwide. Katya extended existing examination preparation brands and ventured into new areas such as the Primary Years Programme and professional development, contributing to revenue growth. During a maternity leave period, they took on the role of Acting Head of IB Publishing, jointly managing a department of 25 people and making decisions on recruitment and new projects alongside two other managers.

In 2014, Katya joined the Smithsonian Science Education Center as an Assistant Director, Science Writing. Katya managed a team of talented writers dedicated to improving STEM education globally. Katya played a pivotal role as a project manager for Smithsonian Science for the Classroom, a significant series of print and digital resources for elementary schools.

Currently, Katya holds the position of Medical Writer II at Technical Resources International, Inc. Since 2022, they have been providing writing support for government-sponsored clinical trials of new agents for cancer and infectious diseases. Their responsibilities involve working on various reports and protocols related to clinical studies, contributing to the development of potentially life-saving drugs.

Katya Vines completed their education at the University of Liverpool. Katya first earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Chemistry between the years 1986 and 1990. Following that, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Organic Chemistry from 1990 to 1994. In 2022, they obtained a Medical Writing Essential Skills Certificate from the American Medical Writing Association (AMWA).
