Basilio Puente Varela

Basilio Puente Varela has a diverse range of work experience in the field of naval architecture. Basilio currently holds the position of Head of Conceptual & Basic Design at TECHNO PRO HISPANIA S.L., a role they have held since 2022. Prior to this, they worked as an Associate Professor of Ship Design at the University of A Coruña starting in 2019.

From 2014 to 2022, Basilio worked at GHENOVA Ingeniería as a Project Manager. In this role, they were responsible for managing a Horizon 2020 I+D project related to hydrogen use as fuel on ships, as well as conducting conceptual and basic design work for GNL powered Ro-Ro ferries.

Before that, they had multiple roles at DINAIN S.L., Naval and Industrial Design. From 2010 to 2014, they worked as a Naval Architect in the general design department, specializing in calculations related to ship stability, seakeeping, propulsion, and maneuverability. Basilio also served as a Requirements Engineer Manager for the Australian LHD ships program, where they were responsible for eliciting and documenting requirements, as well as ensuring their validation and traceability.

Additionally, Basilio worked at VICUS DESARROLLOS TECNOLOGICOS S.L. as a Naval Architect in 2014, where they developed a ship electric load simulator for a project related to the analysis of ship thermal and electrical loads in ports.

Earlier in their career, they worked at NAVANTIA S.A. as a Naval Architect, primarily involved in the calculations and evaluations related to the construction of Australian LHD ships. Basilio also gained experience at TECNOR S.L. as a Naval Architect, where they performed stability calculations for various types of vessels.

Basilio Puente Varela completed their MSc (Hons) in Naval Architecture from Universidade da Coruña from 2002 to 2010.
