Kyla Furey

Curriculum Design Lead at TechSmart

Kyla Furey has worked in various roles since 2006. Kyla began their career as a Computer Science Summer Intern at the Rome Air Force Research Laboratory in Rome, NY in 2006. In 2009, they became a Graduate Student at the University of Southern California, where they learned the mystical art of game design and designed a bunch of games. Her thesis project was "Intimation," a game about learning to see the world from new perspectives. In 2011, they became a Game Design Intern at Wemo Media. Kyla then moved to the USC Game Innovation Lab in 2009, where they worked on Walden game project doing content research and general design. Kyla also worked on an untitled educational game research project exploring new technologies in order to teach kids reading, which involved research, design, flash animation, technical writing, creative writing, and interface design. In 2013, they became Game Designer and Head of Everything at Frumious Productions. In 2014, they became a Curriculum Lead and Coding Trainer at TechSmart Inc. In 2017, they became a Writer and Narrative Designer at EVC Games.

Kyla Furey received their Bachelor of Arts degree from Hamilton College in 2009, where they studied Computer Science and Creative Writing. Kyla then went on to obtain their Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Southern California in 2012, specializing in Interactive Media.
