Jeffrey D. Esko

Chief Scientific Advisor, Biology at TEGA Therapeutics

Dr. Esko is co-founder and Chief Scientific Advisor, Biology of TEGA Therapeutics, Inc. Dr. Esko is also a Professor in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Esko runs a leading glycobiology lab, is well published, has co-authored the leading textbook on Glycobiology, holds several patents, and is extremely active in the University and community at large. With technology originating in his lab, Dr. Esko co-founded Zacharon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. which went on to develop and expand the technology to new areas ultimately leading to successful merger/acquisition of the company with BioMarin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Prior to the merger/acquisition, Dr. Esko served as Scientific Advisor and Board member to Zacharon Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

He earned his B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Illinois. He earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin and completed his postdoctoral Fellowship in Molecular Biology at University of California, Los Angeles.
