Daniel Oakes

PHD Student at Telethon Kids Institute

Daniel Oakes has a diverse work experience. Daniel is currently working as a Postgraduate Research Assistant at the Telethon Kids Institute since July 2022. Prior to this role, they worked as a Postgraduate Student Researcher at the same institute from December 2021 to July 2022.

In 2021, Daniel also worked as a Consultant Microbiologist at DOMC from October 2021 to the present.

From 2016 to the present, Daniel has been actively involved with the Kanyana Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre Inc. Daniel started as a Supervisor, Advanced Tube Feeder for four years, from August 2016 to August 2020. Daniel then became a Microscopy team member from August 2020 onward, and later assumed the role of Infection Control Coordinator in June 2021.

Daniel also has experience in event management and coordination. Daniel worked as a COVID Compliance Marshall at Perth Festival from January to March 2021, and at FRINGE WORLD Festival from December 2020 to March 2021. As an Event Health Officer at St John Ambulance (WA), they served from October 2018 to December 2020.

In addition, Daniel worked as a Concierge at Bethanie from February 2020 to November 2021, and held multiple roles at BERRINGTON CARE GROUP PTY LTD from April 2018 to February 2020, including Lifestyle Assistant, Concierge, and Administration Support.

Before pursuing their current career path, Daniel gained experience as a Volunteer Intern at the Seed Lab at the Botanic Gardens & Parks Authority -KINGS PARK from March to August 2018, and as a Kitchen Staff at Little Raw Deli from October 2016 to March 2018.

Daniel Oakes completed their Master's degree in Public Health - Epidemiology at The University of Western Australia from 2021 to 2022. Prior to that, they obtained a Biomedical Bachelor's degree in Microbiology and Immunology, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine from the same university between 2018 and 2021. Before entering university, Daniel attended Mazenod College from 2012 to 2017, where they received their Secondary Education. In addition to their formal education, Daniel has obtained several certifications, including basic emergency life support, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, providing first aid, responsible service of alcohol, and a basic course in wildlife rehabilitation.
