Senior Bioinformatics Scientist at Tenaya Therapeutics

Farshad Farshidfar, MD, PhD has a diverse work experience in the field of bioinformatics, cancer genomics, and entrepreneurship. Currently, they work as a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist at Tenaya Therapeutics, a position they have held since January 2023. Before joining Tenaya Therapeutics, they were a Bioinformatics Scientist at the same company from March 2020 to February 2023.

Prior to their industry roles, Dr. Farshidfar worked as a Postdoctoral Scholar in Cancer Computational Genomics at Stanford University from September 2018 to April 2020. Farshad also served as a Co-director at AIMS; Association of Industry Minded Scholars, Stanford University from October 2018 to March 2020, aiming to bridge the gap between academia and industry.

Dr. Farshidfar's research background includes a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Cancer Genomics at the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute from July 2016 to September 2018. Farshad completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Cancer Biology from the University of Calgary's Faculty of Medicine from January 2010 to June 2016.

Additionally, Dr. Farshidfar has shown interest in entrepreneurship and innovation by pursuing an Option in Entrepreneurship and Innovation from the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary from September 2014 to April 2015. Farshad has also demonstrated leadership skills as the Director of the organizing committee for the "Get Ready to Get Hired" workshop series at the University of Calgary from February 2013 to November 2013.

Throughout their career, Dr. Farshidfar has contributed to the development of molecular prognostic and diagnostic tests in cancer care, focusing on early detection and individualized treatments. Their work aims to improve diagnostic precision, patient experience, and cost savings in the healthcare system.

Farshad Farshidfar, MD, PhD has a strong educational background in the field of medicine and cancer biology. Farshad obtained their Medical Doctor (MD) degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences, where they studied from 2000 to 2008. Following this, they pursued further education and completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Cancer Biology at the University of Calgary from 2010 to 2016.

In addition to their medical and research qualifications, Farshad Farshidfar has also obtained several certifications to enhance their professional skills. Farshad obtained a certification in Data Management for Clinical Research from Vanderbilt University in June 2014. In December 2013, they completed certifications in Design Thinking for Business Innovation from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business and Organizational Analysis from Stanford University. Furthermore, they have a University of Calgary Leadership Certificate in Team Leadership, which they obtained in October 2011.
