POSITION OVERVIEW:

An exciting postdoctoral research opportunity is now available at the Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation (TIBI). We are seeking a motivated postdoctoral fellow to join our dynamic team and contribute to pioneering precision medicine solutions using advanced patient micro-organoid and organ-on-a-chip technology. TIBI is at the forefront of personalized diagnostics and therapeutics, collaborating closely with clinicians, biotech companies, and pharmaceutical partners to reshape drug candidate evaluation. In this role, you will collaborate across disciplines with engineers, data scientists, and physicians to establish a cutting-edge precision medicine platform and drive innovative breakthroughs. Moreover, you will have the unique opportunity to collaborate with esteemed academic and clinical institutions lead innovation and clinical impact.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and optimize novel organoid culture techniques for various cancer and normal tissues.
  • Apply organoid models and innovative patient avatars to uncover disease mechanisms and assess drug responses.
  • Collaborate closely with clinicians to translate findings into personalized treatment strategies.
  • Perform molecular analyses of organoid cultures and contribute to the establishment of the patient avatar biobank.
  • Present research outcomes in group meetings, seminars, and conferences.
  • Propose inventive solutions for challenges in 3D modeling systems, including formulating hypotheses, designing experiments, conducting trials, analyzing results, and publishing research papers.
  • Contribute ideas to grant proposals, submit postdoctoral fellowship applications, and support faculty in grant proposal writing (NIH, NSF, and DoD).
  • Provide guidance to other researchers, including trainees, junior fellows, and visiting scholars.
  • Collaborate closely with fellow TIBI members to conduct research, exchange ideas, and develop innovative solutions for scientific and clinical inquiries.

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE):

  • Ph.D. in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Graduated with a Ph.D. within the last 4 years.

  • Preferably experienced in organoid and iPSC culture and manipulation.

  • Proficient in molecular and cellular techniques.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research.

  • Strong collaboration skills and exceptional communication abilities.

  • Coachable with a strong work ethic.

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Repetitive movement of hands and fingers-typing and/or writing

  • Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading

  • Occasional standing and walking
