Jan Neerbek

Jan Neerbek has a comprehensive and diverse work experience in the field of machine learning, deep learning, and data science. Jan started their career in 2001 with a project involving IP telephony and speech compression technologies. Jan then worked as a software developer at CCI Europe A/S, where they were responsible for search engine and stream media domains.

Later, Jan joined Bang & Olufsen as a software developer, contributing to the development of their new digital platform. Jan also managed teams in Estonia and India.

In 2011, Jan joined Alexandra Instituttet as a research and innovation scientist, specializing in big data and deep learning projects. Jan also served as the technical lead for their natural language processing projects.

Jan then moved to Roku Inc. as a senior software engineer, leading machine learning and data science projects related to streaming and big data. Jan utilized AWS, Hadoop, and PyTorch/Tensorflow for implementing new ML approaches.

Following their stint at Roku, Jan joined Systematic, where they held multiple roles. Firstly, they worked as a senior data scientist, focusing on machine learning and deep learning projects, with a particular emphasis on text and NLP technologies. Later, they became the team lead for the data science team, managing a team of 9 data engineers, ML engineers, and data scientists.

Currently, they are working at TERMA Group as a lead AI specialist. In this role, they are the technical lead on projects and part of the accelerator team for new technologies. Jan'swork involves applying deep learning and classical ML/statistics approaches to analyze sensor data.

Throughout their career, Jan has gained expertise in various tools and frameworks such as PyTorch, Tensorflow, Huggingface models (bert, roberta, electra, sentence-bert), Pandas, and Numpy.

Jan Neerbek completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Deep Learning and Computer Science from Aarhus University from 2015 to 2020. Jan also holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from Aarhus University, which they obtained from 1995 to 2001. Jan Neerbek completed their secondary education at Vesthimmerlands Gymnasium from 1991 to 1994. Additionally, they obtained additional certifications in IT Projektledelse from Mannaz A/S in 2014, Machine Learning from Coursera in 2013, and Scrum Master from Scrum Alliance in 2010.
