James W. Moore, Jr. is a business executive, and hotel owner and developer, from Monroe, Louisiana. Mr. Moore previously served as President and Owner of Moore Oil Company LLC, a family business with a history that dated its beginnings to the 1940’s. Shortly after receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Northeast Louisiana University in 1971, Mr. Moore joined his father in the company’s business office in Monroe.
He served as Vice President of Kellogg-Moore Oil Company from 1972 to 1976, when he became Owner and President. In the 1980’s and 90’s, Mr. Moore expanded the business, now named Moore Oil Company, Inc., to include convenience stores with locations throughout North and Central Louisiana.
In 1994, Mr. Moore partnered with Dewey F. Weaver, Jr., founder and owner of InterMountain Management LLC, a hotel management company also based in Monroe.
In 2006, Mr. Moore sold Moore Oil Company LLC in order to focus on hotel development and public service. He is Past President of the Ouachita Valley Council of Boy Scouts and Past President of the Monroe Jaycees. He has also served as Chairman of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Monroe-West Monroe Convention & Visitors Bureau. Mr. Moore has also served on numerous advisory boards including the Northeast Louisiana Economic Development Interim Board and Governor Bobby Jindal’s Ethics Reform Transition Committee.
In 2008, Governor Jindal appointed Mr. Moore to the Board of Supervisors of the Louisiana State University System as a representative for the 5th Congressional District. From 2010 to 2011, Mr. Moore served as Chairman of the LSU Board of Supervisors.
Mr. Moore and his wife, Lynn, divide their time between their homes in Monroe and Baton Rouge, and are the devoted parents of three.
