Phil Duan

Phil Duan is a highly experienced software engineer specializing in autonomous vehicle technologies. Currently serving as a Sr. Staff Software Engineer for Autopilot at Tesla since July 2020, Phil leads the data and perception team. Prior experience includes a role as Staff Software Engineer at Tesla, where Phil developed the Occupancy Network and transitioned the data engine to auto-labeling, and a position as Sr. Software Engineer for Prediction at Zoox, focusing on vehicle intent prediction models. Earlier roles at Tesla involved tech leadership in perception, object tracking, and lane-level localization features. Phil's career also includes significant positions at Samsung Electronics, Trimble, and NASA Langley Research Center. Phil holds a Ph.D. and an MS in Electrical Engineering from Ohio University, as well as a BS in Optical Information Science and Technology from Wuhan University of Technology.
