Shannon Weigum is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology and Materials Science, Engineering and Commercialization at Texas State University since September 2017 and serves as Co-Director of the TXST Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Shannon has a strong focus on rapid diagnostic tests for resource-poor settings and has held previous roles including Vice President of Biological Sciences at Paratus Diagnostics and Assistant Professor at Texas State University. Past research experience includes a Postdoctoral Research Associate position at Rice University, where Shannon designed point-of-care diagnostic tests for infectious diseases, and early research roles at the University of Texas at Austin and Texas State University, focusing on microfluidic devices and immunoassays. Shannon holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from The University of Texas at Austin, an M.S. in Biology from Texas State University, and a B.A. in Biology, Science Education from Texas A&M University.
