Penny Newbury

Penny Newbury currently serves as the Senior Director of Development and Communications at TVCCA - Thames Valley Council for Community Action, Inc., a position held since February 2024. Since June 2016, Newbury has also been the Director of Grants and Communications at The Arc Eastern Connecticut, an organization providing essential advocacy and support services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Previous experience includes roles such as President of Hampton Editing Associates, where non-profit grant proposal preparation, management, and manuscript revision were primary responsibilities, and Vice President for Programming at Building Bridges to the Future/JMD, focusing on sustainable livelihoods for disaster victims. Additional experience encompasses various positions in international development with USAID Afghanistan, and service with the Peace Corps in East Timor and Paraguay, alongside several other roles in grant management and program oversight. Newbury holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Rhode Island and a Master's degree from the University of Connecticut.
