Temporary Assistant Chief Constable, Operations at Thames Valley Police

Tim began his policing career with West Midlands Police alternating between uniform and detective posts before transferring to Thames Valley Police in 2014. Tim is currently the Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Operations with portfolio lead for the Joint Operations Unit (JOU) and Contact Management for Hampshire Constabulary and Thames Valley Police.

Tim has a responsibility across Hampshire and Thames Valley for Firearms, Strategic Operations, Roads Policing, the Dog, Marine and Mounted sections, Civil Contingencies, front counters and Contact Management. He is the regional lead for firearms, Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) and is also the National Police Air Service (NPAS) liaison for the South East region.

Tim is a Strategic Firearms Commander, Strategic CBRN Commander and POPS Gold Commander. Before this role, Tim was the head of Resources and Resilience in Thames Valley and has been the commander at Milton Keynes and Aylesbury Vale LPAs.

During his career he has performed a variety of uniform and detective roles as a Professionalising the Investigation Process 3 Senior Investigating Officer (PIP3 SIO) . He has also led on a number of regional and national programmes relating to the development of the National Counter Terrorism Network (2006-2012). In 2015 he became the first Chief of Staff to the Chair of the National Police Chiefs’ Council working closely with Chief Constable Sara Thornton to establish the new organization.

Tim is a graduate of London University and also holds a MA in History and Politics from London, an MSc in Criminology from Leicester University and an MBA from the University of Birmingham. He is currently completing a doctorate in Criminology at the University of Oxford focusing on police leadership, legitimacy and institutional theory.
