Petr Ráb

Council Member at The Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic

Prof. Rab is a graduate of the University of Agriculture in Prague, specializing in fisheries and fish biology. After graduating from university, he joined the Institute of Animal Genetics and Physiology of the ASCR, where he still works in various positions, and in 1994–2002 he was the director of the institute. He is the head of the Laboratory of Fish Genetics, chairman of the workplace council. He was on a number of long-term work abroad. He is or has been the researcher or co-researcher of a number of projects GA CR, GA AV, MŽP, MŠMT, EU focused on cytogenetics, cytotaxonomy and polyploidy of freshwater fish, hybrid asexual fish complexes, conservation genetics and general aspects of fish evolutionary biology, fish taxonomy and systematics. 170 records, 2124 citations (without self-citations), H-index = 29, author or co-author of 8 chapters in books, co-editor and co-author of the book Genetics and Fish Breeding. In the years 2005–2013, he was a member of the Academic Council of the ASCR and a member of the AR Bureau in charge of solving conceptual issues of science support from public funds (institutional support legislation, evaluation methodology, database administration). In addition to these functions, he performs a number of other important activities that contribute to the running and coordination of academic and scientific life. At universities, he is a member of two scientific councils and three doctoral study councils. He is a professor of fisheries at the Faculty of Fisheries and Water Conservation of the University of South Bohemia and an associate professor of zoology at the Faculty of Science of Charles University. In 2017, he graduated from the University of South Bohemia with an honorary doctorate in the field of fishing. He served for two terms as a member of the Commission for the Evaluation of R & D & I R&D, He was the Vice-Chairman of the Interdepartmental Commission for the Evaluation of Research Intentions of Research Organizations of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic. From 1993 to 2013 he was a member of the Assembly of the ASCR at the ASCR, and from 2005 to 2013 he was the chairman of the ASCR Commission for Scientific Information. He was a member of the GAČR panel several times, and for three years he was also the chairman of the Field Commission of Agricultural and Biological-Environmental Sciences. He was a member of the National Committee for Cooperation with the FAO and the Czech representative in the European RT&D Evaluation Network (DG Research) and a member of the committee of the European Ichthyological Society. He was a member of the Research Council of the TA CR for two terms. He is a member of the Breeding Council, a professional advisory body of the Fishermen's Association of the Czech Republic. He has also been the chairman of the Departmental Committee for Agricultural and Biological and Environmental Sciences for three years. He was a member of the National Committee for Cooperation with the FAO and the Czech representative in the European RT&D Evaluation Network (DG Research) and a member of the committee of the European Ichthyological Society.
