Jimmy Burgin joined The American Equity Underwriters, Inc. in 1988 and serves as Senior Vice President, Director of Loss Control. Prior to AEU, he served as Regional Director of Loss Control for a large stevedoring company in bulk, break bulk and container cargo handing operations, as well as administered loss control programs for vessel crews in the marine towing industry. Jimmy is a former chairman of the Technical Committee of the National Maritime Safety Association and served two terms on the MACOSH, the Maritime Advisory Committee for OSHA. Jimmy received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Louisiana Monroe.

The American Equity Underwriters, Inc. is the program administrator of the American Longshore Mutual Association Ltd (ALMA), a group self-insurance fund authorized by the U.S. Department of Labor to provide USL&H coverage for the liabilities of its members under the United States Longshore & Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act. As program administrator, AEU provides services such as claims handling, loss control, and underwriting, as well as longshore consulting and leadership training. In addition to USL&H coverage, AEU offers State Act workers’ compensation coverage on PMA and Great American paper and maritime employers’ liability through Lloyd’s of London syndicate Novae paper. With a history rooted in maritime, AEU is keenly aware of the challenges faced by waterfront employers and has carefully built services and teams to directly meet those needs.
