The Embassy of the United States of America, the Ministry of Education of the Sultanate of Oman, the Office of Overseas Schools of the United States Department of State, and a group of parents and business leaders worked together in 1998 to establish The American International School of Muscat (TAISM). In the Sultanate of Oman, TAISM is the only international school based upon American curriculum and methodologies, and is the only school sponsored by the Embassy of the United States of America.
