Susanne Pichler manages the Foundation's library. In this capacity, she oversees a collection of resources and services to support Foundation research and information needs. During her time at the Foundation, she has participated in the research teams for Reclaiming the Game: College Sports and Educational Values, by William G. Bowen and Sarah A. Levin (Princeton University Press, 2003), Crossing the Finish Line: Completing College at America's Public Universities, by William G. Bowen, Matthew M Chingos, and Michael S. McPherson (Princeton University Press, 2009), and the Board Book: An Insider's Guide for Directors and Trustees, by William G. Bowen (W.W. Norton, 2008), and was a collaborator on Equity and Excellence in American Higher Education, by William G. Bowen, Martin Kurzweil, and Eugene M. Tobin (University of Virginia Press, 2005).
Prior to joining the Foundation in 2000, she was the head librarian for Planned Parenthood Federation of America and served as a reference and collections development librarian in the General Research Division of the New York Public Library Research Libraries, where she was also involved in early web development. Ms. Pichler began working in libraries as an undergraduate, and since that time has held part-time or adjunct positions in Columbia University's Avery and Butler Libraries, the New-York Historical Society, and New York University's Bobst Library. Additionally, she has worked as a research assistant, mainly in the area of US social history. Ms. Pichler holds a BA from Barnard College and an MS in library service from Columbia University. Ms. Pichler completed the Modern Archives Institute at the National Archives in 2009.
