The Art Therapy Project
Gemma Burgio is a licensed Creative Arts Therapist with extensive experience in various therapeutic settings since 2009. Currently, Gemma works at The Art Therapy Project, focusing on art therapy groups for children in supportive housing, while also maintaining a private practice servicing clients across different age groups and issues. Additionally, Gemma holds a supervisory role at the School of Visual Arts, developing innovative art therapy projects. Previous roles include therapy for adolescents in outpatient and school settings, addressing substance abuse and behavioral issues. Gemma’s educational background includes a Master of Professional Studies in Art Therapy and certification in the treatment of eating disorders, complemented by a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography and Art History.

The Art Therapy Project is a nonprofit mental health organization providing free group art therapy to adults and youth affected by trauma. Using the art-making process and with support from our art therapists, clients learn how to explore feelings, increase self-awareness and cope with life's challenges.
