The Ashokan Center is an independent nonprofit learning center established in 2008. We welcome school groups for Educational Field Trips, host public community events including festivals and Music & Dance Camps, and rent our facility for private retreats, conferences, and weddings. Our site has been declared an Historic District on the National and State Registers of Historic Places. This land was a favored hunting and fishing ground for the Munsee Indians for generations, and became home to Americans of European descent in the 1730s. The first mill and blacksmith shop in Ulster County were built here by Lemuel Winchell who later constructed Winchell’s Inn, Ashokan’s historic centerpiece.

The Outdoor Education Team at The Ashokan Center facilitates immersive, hands-on learning experiences for school groups and public communities. They design and lead programs that explore nature, history, music, and art, aiming to inspire learning and foster a sense of community. Through activities such as guided nature walks, historical site tours, environmental workshops, and interactive educational sessions, they provide participants with meaningful engagements with the natural and historical significance of the Ashokan site.

The Facilities and Housekeeping team at The Ashokan Center ensures the upkeep, cleanliness, and proper maintenance of the historic site and its buildings. They manage daily cleaning tasks, repairs, groundskeeping, and general maintenance to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all visitors, including school groups, event attendees, and guests of private rentals.

The Events Management team at The Ashokan Center is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing a variety of events, including public community gatherings, music and dance camps, and private functions such as weddings, retreats, and conferences. They work to ensure that each event aligns with the center's mission to inspire learning and build community through nature, history, music, and art. The team coordinates logistics, engages with the community, and manages the use of the historic site to create memorable and impactful experiences for all attendees.

Events Management

The Leadership Team at The Ashokan Center oversees strategic planning, organizational development, and program execution to ensure the alignment of the center's activities with its mission. Comprising key executives such as the Vice President/co-CEOs and the Managing Director, the team works collaboratively to guide the nonprofit towards sustainable growth, community engagement, and impactful educational experiences.
