Lias J. Steen

Director at The Association of Former Students

Jeff graduated from Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics and went on to earn a Juris Doctorate from the South Texas College of Law Houston. A native of Cuero, Texas, he has been involved in the oil and gas business in various capacities since 1978, starting his career as a petroleum landman. Jeff spent 10 years with Camco International Inc. as assistant General Counsel and General Counsel. Following his tenure at Camco, he served five years as General Counsel for North America for Schlumberger Limited; then, from December 2002 to April 2008, served as Vice President of Legal and Human Resources at Grant Prideco. Jeff joined Oil States International Inc. in 2008 and served as the Executive Vice President, Legal and Human Resources. Currently, Jeff manages Steen Interests, a family office enterprise that includes real estate, ranching and oil and gas assets in Texas and New Mexico. To reflect his creative endeavors, he has participated in the development and production of 19 feature films and documentaries, as well as the theatrical stage production of “Rear Window.” As a student, Jeff was a founding member and the first president of Texas A&M University’s Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He was also active in Student Government and served as a Student Senator. Jeff was awarded the Star American Farmer Degree from the National Future Farmers of America during his sophomore year. Prior to his election to The Association of Former Students’ Board of Directors, he served The Association as a Representative at Large. In the community, Jeff has been active in serving on numerous philanthropic and charitable boards. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum Endowment, as the Managing Trustee for the Steen Family Foundation and is on the board of Harris County Improvement District #3 in Houston. Previous board service includes Girls Inc., The Diaper Foundation, The Juvenile Diabetes Association, South Texas College of Law and Cancer Counseling, Inc. Jeff and his wife, Barbara ’97, are Endowed Century Club members, and have two sons: Jake ’19 and Fletcher ’34.
