Mark C. Herod

Mark graduated from Texas A&M in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in building construction. As a student, he was a member of Squadron 5 in the Corps of Cadets, where he served on the First Wing Staff Color Guard, along with leading his outfit’s intramural sports activities. After graduation, Mark joined his father and worked for the family construction business, Acme Bridge Company. As a road and bridge general contractor for the great State of Texas, Acme Bridge built many projects over the last six decades throughout Central and South Texas. Ten years ago, Mark had the opportunity to expand Acme Bridge into the oil field services industry and begin work in the Eagle Ford Shale. Once fully established, Acme Bridge became a full-service oil field company that constructs pad site locations, excavates reserve pits, builds frac ponds and performs all required work needed prior to rigs arriving onsite. A few years later, Acme Bridge again had the opportunity to expand their oil field service side of the company to West Texas and begin work in the Permian Basin. Whether working for TXDOT or in the oil field, Mark takes great pride in applying the same core values learned at Texas A&M University. Leadership, honesty, integrity and hard work, along with a safe work environment for all, have been paramount on his watch. Acme Bridge Company has received numerous awards recognizing their commitment to safety. They have been a proud member of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) for over 50 years where Mark has served for several years on the AGC Structures Committee. He has long been active in his community with service to his church, the Comal County A&M Club, as well as volunteering with the Comal County Junior Livestock Show Association. Prior to being appointed to The Association of Former Students’ Board of Directors, Mark served as a Representative at Large. He and his wife, Anne ’78, are members of The Association’s Endowed Century Club, as well as the A&M Legacy Society, 12th Man Foundation Champions Council and the Eppright Distinguished Donor Program. Mark and Anne have three children: Clinton ’05 who is married to Lindsey ’07, Clayton ’07 who is married to Ashley ’11, and Amy Catherine ’11. In addition, they have four grandchildren: Claire, Lucy, Billy Pat and Hunter Kade. Mark enjoys ranching, hunting, traveling and spending time with his family.
