A Texas native, Shara earned her bachelor’s degree in business analysis from Texas A&M University in 1990 and a master’s degree in public health from The George Washington University. Through her current role as Divisional Senior Vice President for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX), the largest health insurer in the state, she manages contractual relationships with more than 100,000 providers and 500 hospitals in all 254 Texas counties, which impacts over 7 million Texans who carry BCBS insurance cards. As a voice for BCBSTX members, she is at the forefront of BCBSTX’s $10 million investment in the Texas A&M Health Science Center’s work to address rural health issues. She serves as chairperson of the company’s business resource group, Women Improving the Strength of the Enterprise (WISE) and oversees WISE’s initiatives to promote career, community, commerce and culture across BlueCross and BlueShield plans in Texas, Illinois, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Montana. She also serves on the board for the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce and Klyde Warren Park’s Corporate Council. Outside of the office, Shara is an active leader in the community. She is an alumnus of the Dallas Regional Chamber’s Leadership Dallas Class of 2017, a senior Fellow of Houston’s American Leadership Forum, as well as a graduate of the Leading Women Executives Program developed by the Corporate Leadership Center of Chicago. She previously served on the board for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Dallas, where she was also a mentor. Additionally, Shara was named one of the Top 30 Influential Women of Houston in 2013. Prior to her election to The Association of Former Students’ Board of Directors, Shara served as a Representative at Large. She is an Endowed Century Club member, a lifetime member of the Dallas A&M Club, and a member of the Chancellor’s Century Council. In addition, she is a member of the Mays Business School Dean’s Advisory Board. Shara and her husband, Craig, are proud parents to Melinda ’15 who is married to Ryan Haughey ’13 and Michael ’18 who is married to Katie Morey McClure ’18. In her personal time, she enjoys spending time with her family, running, golfing and traveling.
