Poli Avramidis has extensive experience in information technology leadership, currently serving as Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the General Council of the Bar of England and Wales since March 2015. Prior to this role, Poli held the position of Interim CIO at the General Council of the Bar from September 2014 to February 2015. Career highlights include serving as CIO for the British Medical Association from June 2001 to June 2014 and CIO for Gwent Police between February 1997 and June 2001. Earlier experience includes a role as MIS Manager at the University of Wales College of Medicine from 1989 to 1997. Poli holds an MBA in Business/Managerial Economics and an MSc in Computer Science from Cardiff University, along with a BSc in Mathematics from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

The Bar Council is also the Approved Regulator of the Bar of England and Wales, although we discharge our regulatory functions through the independent Bar Standards Board.
