The Bowery Mission
Chaplain Aretha Clark, MSW, M.Div. serves as Chaplain Coordinator and Chaplain at The Bowery Mission's East/West Harlem campuses since February 2021. Chaplain Aretha is the founder and CEO of Aretha G. Clark Ministry, a position held since December 1999. Aretha's earlier experience includes social work internships at Brooklyn Kindergarten Society, Northside Center For Child Development, and Bronx Collaborative High School, as well as a role as MICA Case Manager at Prometheus, where responsibilities included developing treatment plans and facilitating group meetings. Aretha provided direct care as a Direct Care Worker with the Independent Living Association from May 2002 to April 2008. Educational achievements encompass a Master of Social Work from New York University, a Bachelor's Degree in Human Services from Metropolitan College of New York, a Master of Divinity from Alliance University, and current doctoral studies in Spiritual Formation at Northeastern Seminary.
