Phil Hulbert

Vice President Of Operations, North America at The Carlstar Group

Phil Hulbert has over 30 years of work experience in various roles in Operations and Manufacturing. Phil is currently serving as the Vice President of Operations for North America at The Carlstar Group since January 2022. Prior to that, they were a Plant Manager at the same company since February 2020.

Before joining The Carlstar Group, Phil worked at Joyson Safety Systems from 2007 to 2020. During their tenure, they held the position of Plant Manager / Director of Operations. Phil managed P&L operations in North America with sales of up to $350 million and 800 employees. Phil implemented zero defect methodologies to improve customer quality and achieved significant sales growth and profitability improvement initiatives. Phil also led several global projects, including an ERP implementation and the development of a new product launch process. Phil played a key role in implementing LEAN Manufacturing (Toyota Production System) and achieved significant reductions in cycle time, labor, and floor space. Phil also led the transfer of a $300 million business from a high-cost region to a low-cost region.

Prior to their tenure at Joyson Safety Systems, Phil worked at C-Three Group, LLC as the Vice President of Operations. In this role, they had P&L responsibility for sales, manufacturing, logistics, quality, purchasing, and engineering for portfolio companies. Phil successfully increased sales by 25% and implemented systems and procedures to improve overall company performance.

Phil also has experience working at Key Safety Systems, where they served as a Plant Manager and Quality Manager. Phil had P&L responsibility for $230 million in automotive sales and implemented various improvement initiatives, including Six Sigma, Kaizen, and Lean methodologies. Phil played a key role in launching new business and reducing costs. Phil was also responsible for manufacturing technology selection, global manufacturing strategy, and capex.

Earlier in their career, Phil worked at Federal Mogul (formerly Cooper Automotive) as a Quality Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, and Production Supervisor.

Phil Hulbert has an extensive education history. Phil'seducational journey began at The University of Toledo, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from 1987 to 1991. Following this, Phil continued their studies at the University of Michigan from 1991 to 1992, earning a Master's of Science degree in Industrial & Operations Engineering. Phil's academic pursuits did not end there, as they then enrolled at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville from 1998 to 1999, where they attained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree.
