Leslie Portugal-Taveras has a diverse range of work experience in various roles within the education sector. Leslie started their career as a Group Leader at Children's Arts and Science Workshops in 2009. From 2013 to 2015, they worked as an Operations Assistant at South Bronx Classical Charter School, where they managed the main office and assisted with various administrative tasks. Leslie then joined Dr. Richard Izquierdo Health & Science Charter School, where they held multiple positions. From 2015 to 2016, they served as an Executive Assistant to the Principal, supporting administrative duties and scheduling activities. Leslie then became an Assistant Business Manager, handling HR activities, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and financial transactions. From 2017 to 2019, Leslie was promoted to Human Resources Manager, responsible for managing HR files, onboarding activities, creating contracts, administering background checks, maintaining personnel files, managing employee information, and producing reports. Following this, they worked as the Director of Human Resources at the same school from 2019 to 2021. Currently, Leslie is the Director of Community Outreach at The Charter High School for Law and Social Justice since August 2022. Leslie will transition into the role of Human Resources Director in April 2023. Additionally, Leslie has experience as the Founding Director of Operations at Vertex Partnership Academies from 2021 to 2022. Overall, Leslie has a strong background in human resources, operations, and administrative support.

The Charter High School for Law and Social Justice
The Charter High School for Law and Social Justice will provide students with comprehensive high school education and lay the academic and social groundwork for success in college and careers. Using a theme of law and social justice, the School will engage, inspire, and empower students and equip them with the academic skills to earn a Regents diploma and gain admission to the college of their choice prepared for success. The School will create a pathway for its students to law school and careers as attorneys. The pathway will include mentoring opportunities with law students and attorneys and partnerships with institutions of higher learning. These institutions will offer college and law school experiences to our students and share with them the academic benchmarks and habits necessary to gain entrance to college and law school.
