Julia Kourelakos is a dedicated researcher and software engineer currently serving as a Research Assistant in the Hu Climate Dynamics Lab at Duke University Nicholas School of the Environment since March 2022, focusing on climate modeling. As part of the inaugural Duke Climate Scholars cohort, Julia also contributes to energy data analytics by exploring machine learning methods to estimate global greenhouse gas emissions. Julia is recognized as a Robertson Scholar in the Robertson Scholars Leadership Program, which provides merit-based scholarships and leadership development at Duke University. Recent software engineering internships include roles at Microsoft, where development of classroom resources for Microsoft Teams for Education occurred, and NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Earlier experiences include film research at Appalshop, Inc., and teaching coding and game design to youth at Suncoast Science Center. Julia Kourelakos holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a minor in Creative Writing from Duke University, expected to graduate in 2025.
