Parks & Central Facilities Division Director at City of Burlington, Vermont

Deryk Roach, CPRP, currently serves as the Parks & Central Facilities Superintendent for the City of Burlington, Vermont, a position held since May 2011. In this role, Deryk is responsible for the care of public parks, cemeteries, and buildings within Burlington. Prior to this, Deryk was the Superintendent of Parks, overseeing the operations and maintenance of 37 parks and 1000 acres of parkland. Deryk also gained valuable experience as the Assistant Director of Open Space and Park Maintenance for the City of Springfield from April 2005 to July 2011, where oversight included park operations and maintenance for over 2500 acres of dedicated parkland. Deryk holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Urban Forestry from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and an Associate of Science degree in Arboriculture and Park Maintenance from the Stockbridge School of Agriculture.

Burlington is the largest city in the State of Vermont with a population of nearly 40,000. The city covers 15.5 square miles on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain. There are four colleges in the city including the University of Vermont, (UVM). The University is located overlooking the city on a 451-acre campus which includes undergraduate, graduate, and medical schools. In addition there are two colleges within the city: Champlain College which occupies more than 40 buildings on over 22 acres, as well as Burlington College, which is smaller in size.
