Luke Gillies has a diverse work experience, starting as a Student Engineer at GOLD FIELDS and MMG Limited in 2009 and 2010 respectively. Luke then worked as a Graduate Engineer at Macmahon in 2012 before becoming a Club Treasurer at Manly Life Saving Club from 2014 to 2018. Luke then worked as a Graduate Engineer and Project Engineer at Downer from 2012 to 2018. In 2019, they worked as a Project Manager and Estimator at Mainland Construction Materials ULC and as a Deputy Director, Project Management and Delivery at the City of North Vancouver. Luke also held various roles at the City of North Vancouver, including Section Manager - Utilities and Section Manager - Streets and Fleet. Throughout their career, Luke has managed multi-million dollar projects, supervised staff, and demonstrated expertise in engineering and project management.
Luke Gillies completed their Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Civil Engineering at UNSW from 2007 to 2011. Luke also obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Mining Engineering from UNSW during the same period. In 2015, Luke obtained a Cert IV in Project Management from Project Management Partners. In 2017, they gained a Cert IV in Management and Leadership from Leadership Dimensions.
In terms of higher education, Luke pursued a Master of Engineering Management (MEM) in Engineering at Southern Cross University from 2019 to 2020.
Luke also holds several additional certifications. Luke obtained the UNSW Career Discovery Mentoring Program in 2022 and is expected to complete the program again in 2023. Additionally, they completed the Learn to Lead with UNSW program in 2022 and 2021. Luke is certified in Management by CIM | Chartered Managers Canada and is a Professional Member of the same institution. Luke attained the Professional Engineer (P. Eng) designation from Engineers and Geoscientists BC in 2021. Luke is a Lifetime Member of HUB Cycling and a Life Member of Manly Life Saving Club, achieved in 2021 and 2017, respectively.
