Alena Maschke

Alena Maschke is an experienced health reporter and photographer currently working at The Current Media Inc. since July 2023, covering health issues in Acadiana and southwest Louisiana. Maschke has previously served as a special assignment correspondent for The Times-Picayune | Nola.com, focusing on recovery efforts in Lake Charles, Louisiana, following multiple disasters. Additional experience includes roles as a digital producer for ZDF/Melevision and as a reporter at Long Beach Post and Desert Sun Media Group, where investigative work addressed local business dynamics and political influences. Early career experience includes internships and freelance writing, with a strong educational background in journalism from Columbia University and a Bachelor’s degree from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
