Ellen Clear is an experienced Program Officer at The David and Lucile Packard Foundation, focusing on grant and capacity investments to enhance food security, housing stability, and financial resilience for families across five counties. Previously, Ellen served as Vice President of Grantmaking at Silicon Valley Community Foundation, where significant leadership was demonstrated during the merger of two community foundations and the establishment of community grantmaking priorities. Ellen also held the position of Vice President of Community Programs at Peninsula Community Foundation, overseeing grants and initiatives while providing support to nonprofit organizations. Earlier in their career, Ellen worked as a Financial Analyst at Alex. Brown & Sons, Inc., and began in journalism with roles at The News & Observer / The Raleigh Times and The New York Times. Ellen holds a Master of Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Economy from the University of California, Berkeley.
