Rod Beard

Rod Beard has extensive experience in sports journalism, currently serving as the Sports Editor at The Detroit News since December 2001, where leadership encompasses guiding content for major sports teams and universities in Michigan. Previous roles at the publication include Assistant Sports Editor, Pistons beat writer, and Michigan basketball beat writer, demonstrating a strong focus on basketball and comprehensive coverage of multiple sports. Additionally, Beard has been the Executive Director and Tournament Director for the Academic Games Leagues of America since April 2013 and served as Dean of Students at University Prep Schools. A background in marketing communications was established at GE, and educational credentials include a Bachelor's degree in English and Communication from the University of Michigan.
