Russell Sperling

Russell Sperling is an experienced educator and leader in the field of music and arts education, currently serving as the Director of Visual and Performing Arts for the San Diego Unified School District since September 2015. Additional roles include Board President for Diversionary Theatre and Board Member for San Diego Winds, with a long-standing commitment to education as Band Director at Grossmont College since 2006. Leadership experience includes serving as Immediate Past President for both the National Association for Music Education's Western Division and the California Association for Music Education. Previous positions also encompass coordination of Visual and Performing Arts for the San Diego County Office of Education and directorship roles in various school districts. Russell Sperling holds an MA in Music and an MA in Educational Leadership, along with a BA in Political Science from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo.
