Kevin Herrera

Kevin Herrera is a staff attorney at the National Immigration Law Center (NILC), based in Chicago, IL. At NILC, Kevin works to defend and advance the rights of low-income immigrants, their families, and communities through litigation, policy advocacy, and community education. His work focuses on full access to civic life for immigrant communities, curbing immigration enforcement, and supporting immigrant workers.

Before working at NILC, Kevin was a staff attorney at the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law, working in its Legal Impact Network. At the Shriver Center, he coordinated state-based racial justice and anti-poverty programs, as well as litigated federal civil rights and housing cases. Kevin also previously served as a staff attorney at the Southern Migrant Legal Services, Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid in Nashville, Tennessee, where he litigated on behalf of farmworkers and provided immigration representation victims of labor trafficking and domestic abuse.

In addition to serving on the board of the East Coast Migrant Head Start Project, he is in his second term as a Board member with the Chicago Freedom School, a youth-led organization that develops actionable strategies for social change by training and educating young people and adult allies in the tactics needed to create a just world. Kevin received his law degree from the New York University School of Law, his Master's degree in International Affairs from the University of Georgia, and his B.A. in Political Sciences and Chicano Studies from the University of Minnesota.

Kevin is the proud son of immigrant farmworkers and continues his commitment and connection to the farmworker communities through his professional commitments and his Board service with East Coast Migrant Headstart Project.
