John McDermott is an accomplished journalist and policy adviser with extensive experience in the field of public policy and media. Currently serving as the Chief Africa Correspondent and Global Public Policy Editor at The Economist since February 2016, McDermott has previously worked at the Financial Times from August 2013 to January 2016 as a commentator, and from December 2010 to July 2012 as Comment Editor. Earlier in McDermott's career, significant roles included serving as a reporter for FT Alphaville and a policy adviser at Number 10 Downing Street and the Prime Minister's Strategy Unit. Academic credentials include a Master in Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School and a Bachelor’s degree in History from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
