Chief Investment Officer at Eskom Pension and Provident Fund

Sonja Saunderson has extensive work experience in the investment sector. Sonja currently holds the position of Chief Investment Officer at Eskom Pension and Provident Fund since 2022. Prior to that, they served as the Chief Investment Officer at Momentum Investments from 2010 until 2022, where they were responsible for overseeing a portfolio of R100 billion in assets under management and played a key role in business strategy and development. Before that, they worked at Advantage Asset Managers as the Deputy Chief Investment Officer and Head of Research from 2003 to 2010. In these roles, they were responsible for portfolio management, asset allocation processes, risk management, and investment decision making. Sonja began their career as a Quantitative Analyst at PSG Wealth in 2000, where they provided investment advice for institutional clients. Before transitioning into the investment field, they worked as a Lecturer at North-West University, where they contributed to the development of actuarial training programs and provided tuition in mathematics and statistics.

Sonja Saunderson has a diverse educational background. Sonja obtained a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the North-West University / Noordwes-Universiteit in 1993. Sonja proceeded to pursue their Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in Business/Commerce, which they completed in 1994. Following this, they obtained a Bachelor's degree (Hons) in Business/Commerce, General in 1995. Continuing their education, Sonja completed their actuarial exams in Actuarial Science at the same institution in 1996. Sonja furthered their studies by obtaining a Master's degree in Statistics from the North-West University / Noordwes-Universiteit in 1997. Most recently, Sonja completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning and Services from the University of the Free State in 2020.
