Sofia Batista Leite is a Scientific Officer at the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) since February 2023 and has been part of the board of the European Society of Toxicology In Vitro (ESTIV) since May 2020. Previously, Sofia served as a Scientific/Technical Project Officer at the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, focusing on in vitro methods for regulatory toxicology from January 2017 to January 2023. Academic experience includes a postdoctoral position at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel's Liver Cell Biology Lab from April 2012 to December 2016, as well as a PhD study in Biochemistry and Bioengineering at IBET/ITQB from 2007 to 2012. Early career stages included roles at the Animal Cell Technology Unit and research positions in various projects involving in vitro systems and metabolic studies. Sofia holds a diploma from the University of Lisbon in addition to the PhD degree.
