Dimitri Deheyn is an accomplished Associate Research Scientist and Senior Lecturer at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, with a research focus on light production in marine organisms and its biotechnological applications since 1999. Expertise encompasses isolating new compounds and biophotonic materials related to fluorescence and bioluminescence. As a Project Scientist, Dimitri developed interdisciplinary skills in laboratory management, mentoring, grant writing, and public science promotion, while advancing research in biological light phenomena. Previous roles include NATO and BAEF Postdoctoral Fellow, emphasizing ecotoxicology through innovative bioassays. In addition to ongoing roles at various organizations, Dimitri has served on the Board of Directors for The Blue Water Institute and The Walter Munk Foundation for the Oceans. Academic qualifications come from the Ecole Belge de Kigali and Universite Libre de Bruxelles.
