James Otteson

James Otteson is the John T. Ryan Jr. Professor of Business Ethics at the University of Notre Dame, a position held since July 2020, and serves as a Senior Scholar at The Fund for American Studies from September 2009 to the present. Otteson has held various leadership roles, including the Rex and Alice A. Martin Faculty Director of the Notre Dame/Deloitte Center for Ethical Leadership at the Mendoza College of Business from January 2021 to November 2022. Previous academic appointments include the Thomas W. Smith Presidential Chair in Business Ethics and Professor of Economics at Wake Forest University, as well as positions at Yeshiva University, Georgetown University, and the University of Alabama, where Otteson was also department chairman. Otteson earned a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Chicago and has an extensive background in both philosophy and economics.
