Segun Afolaranmi is a Co-Founder and Executive Secretary at The Ganglion Initiative, a non-governmental organization focused on empowering secondary school students through career development and entrepreneurship. With experience as a House Physician at St. Nicholas Hospital and a Research Student at the University of Oxford's Department of Oncology, Segun has expertise in clinical practice and cancer research. Segun's research background also includes roles as a Clinical Research Associate at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, and a Research Intern at ACEGID, among other positions. Engaged in various leadership roles, Segun served as President of the Students’ Research Network at the University of Ibadan and Vice Chairperson of contents at the 32nd General Assembly of the Federation of African Medical Students' Associations. Currently pursuing a PhD in Cancer Immunology at the University of Cambridge, Segun holds a Master's degree in Integrated Immunology from the University of Oxford and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Ibadan.

The Ganglion Initiative
▶ We were Established in 2017. ▶ Our Mission: is to empower and create a new generation of (Nigerian) youths that will provide sustainable solutions to Africa’s present and future problems through informative and innovative career and education-centered programmes. ▶ Our Vision: is an Africa with a new generation of youths equipped to solve the continent’s problems starting with Nigeria. ▶ We achieve our goals through innovative educational programmes, provision of career counseling, entrepreneurship, leadership and university admission services to pre-university students via our SYNAPSE program, provision of graduate school admission and employment seminars, masterclasses, and boot camps to university students via our SYNAPSE PLUS program, publication of educational materials that will improve the state of quality education in Nigeria and Africa, creation of intellectual role models through platforms such as quiz competitions, spelling bees, debates, science fairs, entrepreneurship challenges, etc, rewarding school administrators and teachers that have positively impacted the lives of students, as well as a host of other activities that are in line with the vision of the organisation, to build an Africa with a new generation of youths equipped to provide solutions to the continent’s problems. ▶ We have reached 8175+ students. ▶ A volunteer base of 200+. ▶ Focus: Providing solutions to the world via empowered and equipped youths.
