Gillen Brewer School (GBS) is a family-oriented, 12-month, special education program for children ages pre-K - 8th grade who have a wide variety of language-based and non-verbal learning disabilities. We provide an integrated, developmentally appropriate, academic-therapeutic program that includes speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, counseling, and social groups. Our curriculum is enriched with robust music, art, science, technology, and movement programs. Learning and growing in a secure and nurturing environment, our students develop the skills necessary to overcome challenges. We work closely with their families to instill self-confidence and build a strong foundation for lifelong learning and independence.

GBS is accredited by the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS). We serve students from New York City’s five boroughs and surrounding areas.  GBS provides an excellently trained staff, a low student-to-teacher-ratio, a team-centered approach, and a well-honed Family Program that is the cornerstone of the organization’s mission and contributes to the sense of community.

The Education Team at The Gillen Brewer School is responsible for delivering a comprehensive, specialized educational experience tailored to children with a wide range of learning disabilities. This includes creating and implementing individualized academic and therapeutic plans, conducting direct instruction and intervention, and collaborating with other specialists (such as speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and counselors) to support each child's development. The team also engages closely with families to foster a supportive and inclusive environment, ensuring holistic growth and the cultivation of lifelong skills and independence for students.
