Leighann Lassiter is an experienced professional in animal welfare policy, currently serving as the Director of Animal Cruelty Policy at The Humane Society of the United States since July 2007. In this role, Leighann develops and implements strategic plans for legislative campaigns, focusing on coalition building, policy analysis, and engagement with law enforcement and volunteers to enhance laws against animal cruelty. Previously, Leighann was the State Director for Tennessee, where significant progress was made in legislative priorities and the establishment of a robust network of humane advocates, leading to the rescue of over 3,000 animals. Prior to this, Leighann held the position of Director of Operations at the Animal Legal Defense Fund, overseeing an emergency shelter for dogs involved in a criminal case while managing logistics, public relations, and compliance. Education was completed at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
