Karl Matchett

Karl Matchett is an experienced sports journalist, currently serving as Assistant Sports Editor at The Independent since July 2017, where responsibilities encompass sportsdesk news and features, alongside live coverage of the Premier League and Champions League. Previous roles include freelance journalism for This Is Anfield and work at ITV Studios in a sports newsdesk capacity. Matchett has extensive expertise in Spanish football as a lead reporter for La Liga at Bleacher Report (B/R UK) from September 2011 to July 2018, and has contributed statistics-based football analysis to Squawka. Education includes a BA Hons in Business Studies from Liverpool John Moores University.
