John H. Hughes, IV, Ed.D. has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. John H. also worked as the Coordinator for Children's Services Act, managing a multi-million dollar budget and ensuring the implementation of community-based services for children and families. Before that, they held roles as a Senior Foster Care Social Worker and Foster Care Social Worker at the City of Lynchburg, where they managed caseloads and supported families. Additionally, they worked as an Auto Claims Central Adjuster at State Farm Insurance, investigating and settling automobile claims. At the start of their career, they were a Youth Care Worker at the City of Lynchburg, where they enforced rules and regulations in a secure detention environment.

John H. Hughes, IV, Ed.D. has an extensive education history. John H. began their academic journey at Central Virginia Community College from 1994 to 1996, where they obtained an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in General Studies. Subsequently, from 1996 to 1998, they attended the University of Lynchburg, earning a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Social Science. Continuing their studies at the same institution, they pursued another Bachelor of Science (BS) degree, this time in Business Administration, from 1998 to 2000. Later, John pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree, completing it at the University of Lynchburg in 2009. Lastly, they are expected to complete their highest level of education, a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree in Leadership Studies, from the University of Lynchburg in 2023.
