Karen Sigmon-Smith has a diverse work experience in the fields of functional medicine, wellness, community outreach, and health education. Karen currently serves as the Director of Strategic Partnerships and Innovations at The Institute for Functional Medicine, where they play a key role in transforming healthcare through individualized, evidence-based approaches. Prior to this, they held the position of Director of Operations at The Breathing Room - Yoga, Arts & Wellness Center. Karen also served as the Managing Director of WellQ at Allegacy Federal Credit Union, focusing on the physical and financial well-being of individuals. Before that, Karen was the Director of Community Wellness and Education at Novant Health, where they led various community initiatives addressing the social determinants of health. Karen also held positions as a Manager at BestHealth and Deputy Director at Health on Wheels at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, and as a Program Developer at Poe Center for Health Education. Karen Sigmon-Smith obtained a Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) with a focus on Health Policy & Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Karen furthered their education at the same institution and earned a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree, specializing in Health Behavior & Health Education. Karen completed their BSPH degree between 1990 and 1994, while their MPH degree was obtained from 1994 to 1996.
