Michael Kaplan

Michael Kaplan has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Michael is currently working as the Associate Director of Evidence & Research at the Institute for Functional Medicine, where they promote education, training, patient care, research, and outcomes in functional medicine globally. Prior to this, they served as a Research Grant Manager at Optum Center for Wellbeing Research, overseeing all aspects of behavior change-based clinical trials for tobacco cessation. Before that, they worked at Arivale as the Director of Clinical Science, managing a team that provided clinical oversight and developed machine learning-based clinical recommendations. Michael also worked as the Director of Special Projects and Consulting Physician at Meridian Valley Lab, a Staff Physician at Tahoma Clinic North Seattle, and a Lead Practitioner at Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy. Additionally, they co-founded and co-developed Zing Nutrition Bars as the Chief Operating Officer and practiced as a Staff Physician at Blakeley Wellness Center, emphasizing patient education and motivational counseling for lifestyle/behavior change.

Michael Kaplan completed their education history with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Political Science and Government from UC San Diego, which they obtained between 1995 and 1999. Following that, they pursued a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree from Bastyr University, where they studied from 1999 to 2005. In addition to their formal education, they obtained a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification in July 2019 from the Project Management Institute.
