Rita Madeira serves as the Africa Programme Manager for West and Southern Africa at the International Energy Agency (IEA) since March 2022, leading the Africa Programme and engaging with IEA Association countries such as Senegal and South Africa. Previously, Rita held the position of Africa Programme Officer at IEA, contributing to clean energy transitions and energy access initiatives. From January 2018 to March 2022, Rita worked as Legal Counsel for Operations at the African Legal Support Facility, providing legal support to African governments on complex commercial transactions and enhancing legal capacity in Africa. Rita's legal career also includes positions as an Associate and Junior Associate at Antas da Cunha Ecija & Associados and a Legal Counsel in the Institutional Department at the African Development Bank's African Legal Support Facility. Education includes a Master of Laws in International Law and International Relations from the University of Lisbon and a Bachelor's degree in Law from the Universidade de Coimbra.
