Robert J. Klonk

Robert J. Klonk is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Unison Risk Advisors and Oswald Companies, one of the nation’s largest privately held and employee-owned, insurance brokerage and risk management consulting firms. Throughout his forty-plus-year tenure as a leader in the field of risk management, he has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to the advancement and sustainability of the industry at-large, and specifically as an advocate for the critical role of the independent broker and advisor.

Klonk started with Oswald Companies in June 1995 after 15 years of experience in sales and leadership in the Life and Health insurance industry. He held the position of Executive Vice President and Director of the Group Benefits Division before advancing to President and Chief Sales Officer of the company in September 2010. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Oswald Companies in January 2013 and was promoted to the dual-role of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in February 2020. He also currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of Assurex Global, an exclusive partnership of the most prominent privately held brokers in the world. He is also on the Executive Committee of the Board of The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers (CIAB). He has served both organizations in membership and leadership capacities for more than 20 years. He previously served as Chairman of The Council of Employee Benefits Executives in Washington D.C., and Council PAC, a Political Action Committee that serves the insurance brokerage community.

In 2020, Klonk led Oswald’s strategic merger with RCM&D, a Baltimore, Maryland-based risk management and insurance brokerage firm. Klonk presides as Chairman and CEO over the newly formed combined company, Unison Risk Advisors, which today represents one of the largest independently owned firms in the United States and is positioned for expansive growth. Built on a solid history of developing and implementing breakthrough solutions to meet both the current and future needs of employers, Klonk continues to be a prominent thought leader in the industry. He is a frequent speaker and panelist, and has been the recipient of various business and leadership recognitions throughout his career. As a mark of his success and visionary approach, in 2013, the same year Klonk was appointed to the position of Chief Executive Officer of Oswald, he was recognized as one of the Top 100 “Insurance Industry Game Changers” in the last century, by Leader’s Edge Magazine and CIAB. In addition, he exemplifies Oswald’s core value of “Commitment to Community,” serving as past Chairman and current board member of the Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED), current board member of the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission, the Greater Cleveland Partnership, and the Cleveland Leadership Center, among various board appointments and leadership positions he has held with nonprofits throughout his career.
