James Merlino, MD, serves as the Executive Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer at The Joint Commission and previously held the position of Chief Clinical Transformation Officer at Cleveland Clinic. With a background as a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, James has also contributed as the President of the Association for Patient Experience and as Chief Transformation Officer and President of Transformational Advisory Services at Press Ganey. James Merlino completed medical education at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine from 1993 to 1997 and is currently pursuing further education at Brandeis University since 2007.
