Laura Schwendinger is an accomplished composer and professor, currently serving as the Head of Music Composition at the University of Wisconsin-Madison since April 2006. Schwendinger is the recipient of the 2023 American Academy of Arts and Letters Opera Award for the composition of "Artemisia," which premiered at Trinity Wall Street in March 2019. With a prolific career spanning several decades, Schwendinger has composed numerous works for chamber ensemble and orchestra, collaborating with leading artists such as Dawn Upshaw and the Arditti Quartet. Notable achievements include multiple fellowships at The MacDowell Colony and Yaddo, guest speaking engagements at prestigious institutions, and participation in the Aspen Music Festival's "Women of Note."
